We are an Architecture Studio based in Woodstock, Cape Town in South Africa. We take on work across the entire Cape peninsular and further if the project is large enough. We take on new buildings, alterations & renovations, as well as shop fitting and garden design. We are available for design consultations, sketch designs, preparation of local authority submissions or the full architectural service, including site supervision. We work together with a variety of consultants and builders and have experience with both ‘budget conscious’ and ‘high end’ projects.

I am a South African architect with German heritage. I studied at the University of Cape Town and started my own practice 9 years later, after working in South Africa, Europe and the United States. I have 22 years experience and am 100% involved with each project.

We are a design orientated practice that seeks to create buildings that are  sensitive to site & context, appropriate in terms of climate, technology & materials and engaging & enjoyable to inhabit. We believe that good architecture emerges out of the investigation of each specific client, site and brief, rather than from a preconceived idea of what a building should look like.

Our aim is to produce timeless designs and we try to steer clear of [faddish] trends. We prefer the simple and understated to the overly complex and brash. We like natural & green and strive for harmony with the environment. We recognize the impact of individual buildings on their surroundings and are mindful of how we fit in or challenge our context.

We believe that function is important and take care to address all programmatic requirements carefully. We believe that the simplest solution is quite often the best, with regard to function, construction and maintenance and strive to keep it that way. We like the notion of a lean & efficient architecture, one that lacks fat/excess.

We believe that good design, rather than large budgets, make for good buildings and we continuously strive to keep things affordable and real. We prefer inclusive to exclusive and are concerned that, looking at our local publications, the price tags attached to the things that are being advertised in trendy home related publications, seem to exclude design for the majority of our population.
